N League U14 – Glendowan 1 V 3 Loughgall Youth

Squad Sept 2014Loughgall made the journey to Belfast for their last game of the season against a much changed Glendowan side and put in a dominant performance to come away with a 3-1 victory.

The opening exchanges were even with Glendowan pressing and Loughgall having to defend stubbornly with Tyrek Thompson, Ryan Faulkner, Luke Murray and Jonathan Brown resolute. The ever alert Daniel Acheson may a smart save low to his left when the Loughgall defence was breeched.

Loughgall always looked dangerous with Jonathan Ewart pulling his shot wide and Kyle West just failing to get on the end of a Dale Mulligan centre. A slide rule Josh Woods pass sent Scott McCann racing clear and his goal bound effort was well saved by the home keeper. With 20 minutes gone Loughgall broke the deadlock when Kyle West and Dale Mulligan combined to find Josh Woods whose early cross was glanced into the far corner by Adam Alexander.

Loughgall were now on top and a Kyle West corner caused havoc in the Glendowan penalty area and Ryan Faulkner smashed the loose ball high into the Glendowan net to double his teams advantage.

The start of the second half saw Glendowan push forward and Daniel Acheson had to be quick of his line to make another smart stop before a high Glendowan cross was punched into the net at the back post by their forward, who received a yellow card from the referee.

Zane Brown was working hard closing down the Glendowan defence and it was his hard work that earned Loughgall a corner from nothing. Scott McCann swung the corner over to the back post and the unmarked Jonathan Ewart thumped a volley past the Glendowan keeper from 8 yards.

Loughgall had further chances to score when Ryan Irvines ball out of defence saw Jonathan Ewart hold off his marker and cut into the Glendowan box, only for the keeper to save his shot with his legs. Then both Jonathan Ewart and Zane Brown failed to find the net from close range as the Glendowan defence was all at sea.

These were the last real opportunities before the referee brought the game to a close to see Loughgall record an excellent away win to finish the season on a real high.

N League – Loughgall Youth 6 v 0 Warrenpoint Town

Loughgall made a solid start against Warrenpoint with Jonathan Ewart, Josh Woods, Scott McCann and Dale Mulligan all prominent. The Loughgall boys were moving the ball well and causing Warrenpoint problems and it was surely only a matter of time before the opening goal arrived.

Zane Brown was fouled 25 yards out from the Warrenpoint goal and the Warrenpoint keeper could only parry Ryan Faulkners free kick and Scott McCann was quickest to react to fire the ball home and open the scoring. A quick Loughgall counter attack then saw Tyrek Thompson burst into the Warrenpoint area but he could not keep his fiercely struck shot down as It fly over the Warrenpoint bar.

With the Loughgall defence of Jack Hamilton and Jonathan Brown being superbly marshalled by Ryan Faulkner and the impressive Tyrek Thompson, it was not long before Loughgall doubled their advantage when Josh Woods got on the end of a Scott McCann free kick and fired home from six yards.

With half time approaching Loughgall sealed the game when after good play from Jack Hamilton and Dale Mulligan, Ryan Faulkner struck a superb looping shot from 20 yards over the keeper and into the Warrenpoint goal.

Warrenpoint enjoyed their best spell of the game at the start of the second half, but they never troubled Daniel Acheson, and it was Loughgall who grabbed their fourth goal when Dale Mulligan and Kyle West combined to release Adam Alexander who drilled home from a tight angle. Ten minutes later the same player was at it again as he exchanged passes with Dale Mulligan and Kyle West before firing the ball over the head of the Warrenpoint keeper and into the far corner of his net.

Loughgall now stroked the ball about with real purpose as Josh Woods found Kyle West and as he burst into the Warrenpoint penalty area he was hauled to the ground and the penalty was awarded. Jonathan Brown’s spot kick was well saved by the busy Warrenpoint keeper, but Luke Murray was quickest to react and fire into the unguarded net to complete a fabulous team performance.
